Some notes from Chongqing

I’m now in Chongqing, and will go to Chengdu by train tomorrow for my teaching trip. It is a comfortable experience so far – we ride in a coach most of the time, we live in a 4 star hotel with a computer in the room, and our expenses are covered by the Chongqing officials.

Just a couple of interesting notes:

1) Today we visited 宝顶山 of 大足石刻, which is a mountain full of rock carvings from the Southern Song Dynasty. There was a craving named 九龙浴太子图. Our tour guide gave the following description of the craving: “According to legend, this prince was not born from the womb of his mother, but came out from her right armpit.”

2) We also visited a golf club and resort in the outskirts of Chongqing. The resort is owned by some government official. We were shown a couple of display houses in the resort. (They are really cheap – about 2.5 million HKD for a 3000 sq. ft. house) In one of the houses, they put several pairs of leather shoes in the walk-in closet of the master room. I looked at the shoes and saw the brand name was “神行袋鼠”. I thought kangeroos jump instead of walk.

(this note is posted by vase, because soyin cannot access to wordpress there)

Halo maan, nice to be able to follow your trip here. So WordPress is also blocked by the so-called “Great Firewall of China” then? The last time I read about Chongqing was this morning, when BBC reported that,

“China’s first sex theme park, aimed at improving both the sex education and the sex life of its visitors, has been torn down before it even opened.”

    And that was in Chongqing.
